Design of the Decade Award 2010

In 2010 my Nike Considered designs received a bronze Design of the Decade Award from the IDSA (Industrial Designers Society of America). The products were initially conceived in 2003 and they went on to serve as a tipping point for environmentally sustainable design at Nike. Spark Design Award 2009

Spark international design competition awarded the Nike Free 5.0 training shoe Best in Show. This shoe featured seam-less construction techniques, which ushered a new wave of modern shoemaking that changed the footwear industry. The Free 5.0 revived an almost-dead franchise at NIke.  A year later nearly 2 million pair were sold. Sell-through in Asia was a staggering 42%. Special thanks to designer Thomas Bell & engineer Phillipe Blanchard.


IDEA Best in Show Award 2009

In 2009 Nike Trashtalk sneakers got the IDEA (International Design Excellence Award) 'Best in Show' Award & were published in Business Week for best designs of 2009. NBA star Steve Nash was so stoked with the shoes & asked for all of his footwear to be designed this way. Special thanks to Fred Dojan & Kasey Jarvis.


International Design Magazine 2007

In 2007 my 'Nike Considered 2k5' shoe design received a Design Distinction award from ID Magazine in their annual design competition. This 'second generation' product featured significant improvements in sustainability & athletic performance. Many of the components snap together - reducing the need for harmful cement & simplifying disassembly for recycling. Materials include woven hemp, laminated bamboo & chrome-free leather. International Design Magazine 2006

In 2006 my Nike Considered designs received an Honorable Mention Design Award from  I.D magazine as part of their annual design competition.  In 2010 they received a bronze Design of the Decade Award from the IDSA (Industrial Designers Society of America). They were also featured in various global publications, including Sneaker Freaker (Australia), Street Jack, Mono (Japan), Sotokoto (Japan), Milk (Hong Kong) & Sole Collector (USA). More important than that, they served as a tipping point for environmentally sustainable design at Nike. Special thanks to Richard Clarke for support & encouragement.


Innovation Magazine 2010

The Industrial Designers Society of America (IDSA) publishes a yearbook of Design Excellence every fall. The NIke Lunar Glide received an Innovation award in Fall 2010. Special thanks to Sebastien Mermet, Chris Cook & Phil McCartney.


Runners World Magazine 2009

The Nike Lunar Glide received a 'Best Debut' award from runners world in their annual  'best' issue. This shoe is now a franchise model that sells over 3 million pair each year.
